Flat and green Butjadingen peninsula is a blissful place for pedal biking. Be sure to explore the Canal trail.
Walking on the bottom of the sea in Waddenland
Mudflat hiking is something of a national sport at Butjadingen. Trekking across the mudflats (known locally as 'wadden'), you will be walking across protected natural beauty. In fact, the seaside out in front of Sunparks Nordseeküste is part of a huge national park: the UNESCO world natural heritage wadden sea. Ralf is Sunparks Nordseeküste's very own guide and seasoned mudflat hiker. Starting out from the fnn Friesenstrand (Friesen Beach), Ralf is on hand to take you in tow across the mudflats. Prepare for a voyage across the bottom of the sea. Wellies and suitable gear that can take a bit of rough and ready is no idle luxury in these parts. Be sure to bring your camera, as you are likely to spot a few adorable seals with a little luck. The hike lasts well over two hours.
After lunch, you can drive out to picturesque Fedderwardersiel fishing port by car, just 10 km from Sunparks Nordseeküste. You will be sampling the authentic atmosphere of life in a small North Sea fishing port. Try and pick up some fresh prawns, but make sure you ask for "Krabben" (crabs) or "Granat", the local terms for prawn. While you are there, pop into the Museum Nationalparkhaus Fedderwardersiel Museum where the kids get to feed the fish. After your visit to the museum, you will have earned yourself a delicious Bismarck Herring roll at Andy's Hafenkombüse. Then it is back to Sunparks Nordseeküste. To round off the day, set out on foot and head out to Strandlust Café which sits at the top of the Tossens seafront. A great vantage point to watch the sun set into the (Wadden) Sea.
The starting point for the mudflat hike is just outside Sunparks Nordseeküste. Fedderwardersiel is just 10 km from Sunparks Nordseeküste. Perfectly suited for all generations.
09:30: Walking across the sea
Hiking across the Wadden Sea is an indelible experience. Your experience guide and mudflat hiker Ralf will be happy to pick you at Sunparks Nordseeküste.
12:30: Ever tried petting a crab or a starfish
The Nationalparkhaus Fedderwardersiel Museum is a celebration of life in and around the Wadden Sea. Once a week, all kids are allowed to feed the fish in the fish tanks.
15:00: The best rolls with fish anywhere on the Nordseeküste
Keep it under your hat, but the best rolls filled with young herring fillets are served at Andy's stall in Fedderwardersiel.
